25 Winners at 5th annual CEE Shared Services Awards

At the 5th annual CEE Shared Services and Outsourcing Awards Gala on 2 February in Warsaw, 25 top companies were distinguished for their contribution and performance within the sector. Nearly 300 top sector-executives from 139 companies attended, representing 23 countries. The independent Jury voted 1st February to award the following companies. In a tough competition (129 great companies were Short-Listed) among world-class firms, the following took first place:

  • Best University-Business cooperation of the Year 

    BT ROC(KET) SCIENCE

    First among Hungarian SSCs, BT signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Edutus College is September 2015. With BT's university cooperation and special SSC training, more than 500 students are impacted directly on a yearly basis in the city of Debrecen. These are talented high school students who find it difficult or outright impossible to attend university because of their disadvantaged situation. BT helps these students via a work-scholarship programme, which pays the tuition for these talented youngsters and provides them with job opportunities at the company.

     
  • Public Sector Initiative of the Year 

    GDANSK CITY MUNICIPALITY SSC

    In May 2016 Gdańsk City Municipality started a cooperation with the external advisory company on the project of feasibility study for setting-up Shared Service Centre (SSC), providing finance & accounting and HR & payroll processes for schools. Forecasted benefits related to GSSC creation will derive from process improvements, headcount optimisation, electronic workflow implementation, setting-up GSSC help-desk and development of new process methodologies. The project team estimates savings on the project in the amount of 8.3 million pln over six years.

  • Best new office development for SSC/BPO sectors

    QUADRUM, Vilnius (Schage)

    GLA/sqm: 70.000 m². Quadrum is a Class A+ office complex in a strategically convenient location in Vilnius. The ensemble of three buildings boasts energy-saving solutions that help reduce utility costs by up to 40%, and includes kindergarten, sports facilities, shops, restaurants and other conveniences. Quadrum is the first business centre in Lithuania to obtain BREEAM certification. Quadrum’s collection of modern art took shape during the “Art in Quadrum” competition.

    In 2016 Hays have placed over 750 candidates, for a total number of placements of over 2,300 during 5 years of collaboration for the Romanian market. The biggest client won in 2016 in Poland was the RPO project for BNY Mellon where we are responsible to fill over 800 experienced and management level hires in 2 years. We also won numerous clients with medium and small FTE needs.

    Over the last 18 months PWC team has engaged with more than 20 clients from a range of different industries, supporting them either on their full end to end Shared Services journey or helping with selected areas of their shared services projects or operations. Speaking engagements at over 20 conferences related to the SSC & BPO industry, focusing on SSC & BPO in Poland and Europe. Partnered with cities and local government bodies to enhance the development of the SSC & BPO industry, including three major Polish cities. Over the last 12 – 18 months the PwC team has developed a number of new services focused on SSC operational excellence. The SSC & BPO Centre of Excellence Team, in cooperation with the PwC Service Delivery Centre Team, developed new type of services related to Robotic Process Automation

    New SSC/BPO projects created in Opole: Axxiome , ITO, Jcommerce, ITO, PWC Service Delivery Center, BPO, ATOS - ITO, BRIGHT CODER'S FACTORY - ITO Ifm Ecolink – R&D. Opole attracts SSC/BPO projects by the favourable investment climate, human resources availability, high qualifications of Opole based employees and the development of modern office space market. Aftercare help with all issues/problems/concerns (such as promoting job posts, organizing press conferences, finding suppliers, initiating cooperation with universities, labor offices and many other).

     
  • Emerging City of the Year – CEE

    Debrecen, Hungary

    In 2016 the following SSC/BPO projects were announced: Flowserve Global Financial Centre, Expansion of the service centre of IT Services, Expansion of the service centre of BT, Expansion of Transcosmos, a global BPO . Debrecen has grown to become the Number 2 SSC location in Hungary after Budapest. The Municipality of Debrecen has made the SSC/BPO sector one of the four focus areas of the economic development in Debrecen. The City and the University of Debrecen, with its 31,500 students and 14 languages taught, is the most important educational centre of Eastern Hungary.

    In 2015 we onboarded ThyssenKrupps, Colas, KONE, VION, and Heineken. Major contracts include Constellium prolongation and British American Tobacco takeover of account management.

     
  • Top CSR initiative of the Year

    Promotion of IT among People with Disabilities in Belarus

    The project aimed to demonstrate that IT can foster integration of people with disabilities in the society. Following the training, IBA Group organized a contest among the graduates to attract employers’ attention to the newly educated system administrators. IBA Group trained 120 people with disabilities in system administration, including 89 remotely. 56 students participated in the semifinal of the national contest in system administration among disabled and 10 qualified for the final. 6 project graduates, including the contest winner were offered IT jobs. It was the first IT education project for disabled in Belarus.

     
  • BPO firm of the year – Poland

    Today Capita Poland, with two Business Centres in Krakow and Lodz employs almost 900 skilled professionals delivering service excellence in 26 languages, from call centre activities to a very innovative high level back office support. The Krakow and Lodz Teams extends Capita’s pan European delivery capability in wide range of services to its diverse markets. Total number of employees: at December 2015 – 700; at December 2016 – 850; projected at December 2017 – 1200.

    Our headcount has grown over 40% from last year to current 1700+ associates working for 56 Global Customers.     Danske Bank Group IT Lithuania

    Danske Bank Group IT Lithuania is running a range of business critical activities supporting external and internal clients of the Danske Bank in Europe, Americas and Asia Pacific. Unique IT functions include: Award winning application (MobilePay) rolled-out to Danske Bank markets that are now currently being used by more than 3 million people daily and it is installed in 9 out of 10 smartphones in Denmark. Development of Danske Bank’s core banking system which is main money transfer provider for Danish government (e.g. all pensions and social payments to citizens of Denmark go through this system monthly).

    BP GBS Europe (Budapest)

    BP GBS Europe has produced an average 200 FTE year-on year growth since inception. In the last year GBS Europe has transitioned ca 300 FTE’s worth of roles and announced a further expansion of additional 500 roles within the next 3 years, while maintaining the current level of operation in Budapest. Beyond that GBS Europe also managed to generate an additional year on year average saving of 5-8% on existing scope through consolidation and increased process efficiency and effectiveness while providing higher level of services to its business partners. We have multiple initiatives to give something back to this community, we have great relationship with the our partners like: Local Complex Kindergarten and School for Mentally Disabled Children and Children with Learning Disabilities 9th District, Hungarian Red Cross, Hungarian Child Rescue Foundation, Feed the Children Foundation, Mosaic Charity Shop, Hungarian Cyclists’ Club. GBS Europe is the mega centre of BP’s GBSs all around the world, by opening our second location in Szeged in 2017 we will be even bigger and more impactful.

    Danske Bank Global Services Lithuania

    GSL operates 6 competence centers using best industry practices, but still in development phase (KYC, AML screening & monitoring, reconciliations, securities, payments and transfer pricing), and is looking into expand the scope. All areas have successfully shifted into the global teams’ set-up, where GSL is home for young professionals working in 16 global units and 52 global functions. In 2015, GSL started expanding its scope outside of Group Operations. Now it is a home to 6 professional functions (finance, risk, legal, procurement, HR, Group Process Development), Corporates & Institutions business.

     
  • SSC of Year – Poland

    AmerSports

    In 2014 it was decided to serve North America from Krakow so all accounting transactions are now executed from the AmerSports SSC, with headcount of 180 employees. In 2015 AmerSports IT services followed the Finance function and initiated the transition of IT services, with a headcount target of 30 employees. In 2016 AmerSports SSC explored new areas like analytics, supporting Global Operation Spend, with net annual savings 3.5 million euros. Cumulative savings since end of 2011 9 million euros. In 2016 launched its Robotics program, with 25 Process candidates and 5 robots already working providing 4.4 FTE savings with 3 months payback.

    Currently we provide services to over 90 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, both Americas and Australia. Our employees use over 29 languages every day. Total number of employees, targeted at December 2017: 4400. In CSC Poland employees speak 29 languages.

     
  • Business Centre Manager of the Year – BPO

    Prabal Datta – Tata Consultancy Services

    Prabal took over the Budapest GDC (Global Delivery Center) in May 2015. He introduced his program with the help of Olympics theme and symbols. His circles are also representing the world, since the center in Budapest is capable for all services to all Geographies. Furthermore he set his strategy based on the five Olympics circles too, dedicating one for Improve Business, Develop People, Collaboration, Added Value and Growth. He introduced the global Academic Internship program, and launched the successful TCS SKOOL Ambassador Program. "The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing" - this motto drives him in every action from expansion planning to one-on-one talks.

     
  • Business Centre Manager of the Year – SSC – CEE

    Arminta Saladziene – Nasdaq Technology and Business Support Center

    Arminta Saladžienė has been with the exchange business for more than 20 years, during which the company has gone through major transformations. She is widely familiar with different stages of the financial markets development in Lithuania and Baltic markets overall. She has worked at Nasdaq in various positions and became an integral part of Nasdaq management team since 2007 as the President of Nasdaq Vilnius. She was appointed as the Head of Baltic Market in 2012. In addition to local business, she has been responsible for cross-Baltic organization and since December, 2014 became CEO of Nasdaq Vilnius Services, technology and business competence center, providing support for Nasdaq businesses globally. During her time of managing the center, it has grown from null to 200 employees and is continuing its expansion.

     
  • Business Centre Manager of the Year – SSC – Poland

    Scott Newman – State Street Bank Poland

    Scott led on the project of a new office set up which was accomplished with the grand opening in March 2016 attended by the company CEO and other officials. The office has grown rapidly since Q1 and now employs 600 staff. Scott has been successfully managing the operations in Poland which has grown from 2600 to 3400 people and spread across more than 20 diverse and highly complex activities: fund administration including AIS, Securities Valuations, Derivatives, Financial Reporting, KIID, Collateral, AML Department, Risk Management Department, Compliance Department, Investment Analytics Department, Investment Compliance and others.

     
  • New-entrant SSC of year

    Credit Suisse (Warsaw)

    Credit Suisse office in Warsaw opened in September 2016. Due to acceleration of recruitment processes, supported by proper employer branding campaign, there is already a group of ca. 150 staff who deliver various services across Investment Banking, Risk, Finance and other Corporate functions such as HR or IT. The initial investment is scalable up to 1000 people and will be fully completed in 2017, with option for further growth. Modern working environment, providing remote collaboration tools and flexible workspace called ‘Smartworking’ includes also innovative solutions that ensure employees’ well-being and safety, such as live green walls and fitness area. The whole infrastructure is robust, redundant and environment-friendly. The opening of the Warsaw office marks important milestone in a global offshoring approach to leverage talent around the world, maximizing the efficient use of the bank's resources, which started in 2006 and helps to reduce our Group-wide cost base, whilst ensuring a high quality of products and services provided remotely to our clients worldwide.

     
 

This 5th annual event, MC’ed by Thom Barnhardt and Magdalena Jakubowska of CEE Business Media attracted a multitude of international guests from across the CEE region, including Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Romania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, Bulgaria and Poland. Additional guests came from Hong Kong, UK, USA, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, Austria, Australia, and India.
